THE STORY

From trains to landmarks to local legends, there are lots of stories to tell about Eagle River. And we believe the best stories should be told over a round of cold ones. That’s why each and every beer we brew is a tribute to the folklore of Eagle River. Stop on by and we’ll tell you a tale or two.

BEERS

28 Lake Lager

Our tribute to the “World’s Largest Chain of Inland Freshwater Lakes”. A Dortmunder-style lager, this style was made popular in the 19th century in Dortmund, Germany. A pale golden lager with notes of biscuity malts. Bitterness is akin to a German Pilsner. Mouthfeel is firm and even with an overall dry tone.

Blueberry Train Wheat Ale

Brewed as a tribute to the train that carried wild blueberries from Conover to Chicago back in the early 1900’s, Blueberry Train Wheat is a refreshing wheat ale with added natural blueberry flavor.

Barefoot Charlie IPA

“Barefoot Charlie” Haase was a colorful character who went barefoot all year long. He built and ran a tavern/museum/restaurant just south of Land O’ Lakes and featured intricate woodworking, all done by Charlie himself. Much like Barefoot Charlie, our India Pale Ale is bold, creative and leaves a lasting impression.

Ghost Lights Amber Lager

A tribute to the mysterious lights near Paulding, Michigan. This lager is light bronze in color with a delicate malt aroma and a slightly toasted malt character followed by a mild, pleasant hop finish. So well balanced it will leave you wondering…is this for real?

Old Eagle Porter

Brewed as a tribute to the first steamboat to navigate the Eagle River, Old Eagle Porter is a smooth, dark beer with notes of dark chocolate derived from malted grain.

Summerwind IPA

Located on the shores of West Bay Lake are the ruins of a once grand mansion that was called Summerwind. The house is long gone now, but the eerie legend remains. Summerwind IPA has hints of citrus and an unearthly yet pleasant bitterness. The legend lives on…

Motor Tobaggan Coffee Stout

(Winter seasonal)

This beer brewed as a tribute to Carl Eliason and his invention, the Motor Tobaggan. A silky oatmeal stout infused with Eagle River Roasters own Buck Snort Coffee giving it a pleasant coffee aroma and a smooth roasted coffee flavor throughout.

Finn’s Irish Red Ale

(Spring Seasonal)

Our tribute to Finn Lawler, the “Grandfather of Vilas County”. The red ales of Ireland have a gentle maltiness, caramelly, earthy notes, and a generally restrained hop character. We’ve added a bit of dark malt to give Finn’s Irish Red Ale a deeper, slight roasty flavor. We raise our glasses of Finn’s Irish Red Ale to you, Mr. Lawler...Sláinte!

Depot Bock

(Winter Seasonal)

Brewed as a tribute to the Railroad Depot which is over 100 years old. The beer is a slightly malty sweet, dark and bready lager, medium bodied, with a hint of caramel. Deep amber in color with moderate carbonation. Let’s celebrate the end of Winter and the coming of Spring, shall we?

White Legs Jalapeno Wheat Ale

(Mid-Spring Seasonal)

Gold Medal Winner-Chili Beer Division-2018 Great American Beer Festival.
A clean, refreshing wheat ale with jalapenos added post fermentation. Lightly carbonated to allow the pepper flavor to come through.

Frostwatch Cranberry Wheat Ale

(Fall Seasonal)

Our fall seasonal, made with locally grown cranberries. Our tribute to the cranberry industry in Wisconsin. Slight cranberry tartness hits you up front but doesn’t linger, making for a clean, refreshing finish.

Old Copper Octoberfest Bier

(Fall Seasonal)

Our fall seasonal, Brewed as a tribute to the Old Copper Indians' first permanent Indian settlement in the Northwoods which is the site of current day Eagle River. Eagle River is believed to be named by Bethuel Draper and "Dutch Pete" Cramer, who arrived in the area around 1853, and named it due to the abundance of eagles nesting along the river.

Mele Kalikimaka – Coconut Porter

(Holiday Seasonal)

Our Holiday beer since 2012, Old Eagle Porter with coconut! Dark and roasty yet smooth and delicious…a mounds bar in a glass.

7th Anniversary Triple IPA

(2019)

Our Triple IPA is loaded with hops but also lots of malt to balance. The resulting beer has huge hoppy highs and deep malty depths with a 9.5%abv to match.

6th Anniversary Imperial Stout

(2018)

Our 6th Anniversary beer. Originating in London just before the turn of the 19th century, the imperial stout was first brewed as a particularly strong porter – a “stout” porter. Roasted notes of chocolate, espresso and even burnt toast along with some dark fruit and hops. A slight alcohol warming is evident. Happy 6th Anniversary to us! 9.6%ABV

5th Anniversary Bourbon Barrel Barleywine

(2017)

An American Barleywine aged in bourbon barrels for 10 months. Deep copper in color with a caramel, toffee aroma and flavors of dried fruit. Barrel aging adds another layer of complexity, enhancing the overall experience. Alcohol warming is evident. Happy 5th Anniversary to us!

Vier Belgian Quadrupel Anniversary Ale

(2016)

Our 4th Anniversary beer…Full bodied with a complex fruity aroma and flavor reminiscent of raisins, dates, figs, and dark cherries accompanied with a hint of winy character. Caramel, dark sugar and malty sweet flavors complement the fruitiness. Well balanced with savoring/sipping drinkability.

Drei Belgian Tripel Anniversary Ale

(2015)

A pale, somewhat dry, strong Trappist ale. Aromatic, with spicy, fruity, and light alcohol notes. Surprisingly drinkable considering the higher alcohol level of 9.5%. Superb!

Imperial IPA Anniversary Ale

(2014)

Brewer Marc O’Brien chose an Imperial IPA...weighing in at about 10.5% ABV, Marc used approx. 7 lbs. of hops per barrel to kick up the IBUs. Enjoy!

Belgian Strong Anniversary Ale

(2013)

Each year, Brewer Marc O’Brien will choose a different beer to brew to commemorate our anniversary. This year, Marc chose a golden, complex, effervescent, strong Belgian-style ale with an ABV of 8.5%. This style may be new to many of you. We hope you enjoy it...”Op uw gezondheid!”

Summer Kamp American Pale Lager

(2016)

Our latest tribute to the summer camps in northern Wisconsin. Pale lagers originated in Europe in the mid-19th century, and moved to America with German immigrants. The American Pale Lager will display a broader depth of malt flavor and a more complex bitterness.

Summer Kamp Belgian Style Witbier

(2015)

This year’s tribute to the summer camps of northern Wisconsin is a belgian-style witbier, a refreshing, elegant, tasty, wheat-based ale. The addition of chamomile flowers adds a pleasant, herbal aroma.

Summer Kamp Saison

(2014)

A seasonal summer farmhouse ale from Wallonia, the French-speaking part of Belgium. A combination of fruity and spicy flavors supported by a soft malt character creates an extremely refreshing beer with a dry finish. Nelson Sauvin hops spins this otherwise fairly traditional saison into something special, giving Summer Kamp Saison a white wine-like characteristic.

Summer Kamp Kolsch

(2013)

Our tribute to the many summer camps in northern Wisconsin. A clean, crisp, delicately balanced kolsch-style beer with very subtle fruit flavors and aromas. Subdued maltiness throughout leads to a pleasantly refreshing tang in the finish. A perfectly drinkable summer refresher while enjoying a day on the water or a night by the campfire.

Although retired... these can make an appearance at a later date

Fire Tower Chipotle Porter

(Winter seasonal)

This beer is a tribute to the fire towers that were decommissioned in 2016. A slightly smoky porter with a tingle of heat from the peppers. Low carbonation allows the pepper flavor to come through.

Frozen Oval Gold Lager

An early version of the 28 Lake Lager, brewed as a tribute to the 50th anniversary of Snowmobile Racing in Eagle River.

Hefeweizen (Test Batch #1)

Often described as clove-like, banana-like, phenolic, sour, spicy, or even bubblegum-like, hefeweizens are mildly hopped due to its flavor complexity. Enjoy this very limited beer.

Chain O' Lakes Pilsner

A classic German Pilsner…very light straw in color and well-hopped. Spicy herbal aroma and flavor with a flash of citrus-like zest. Enjoy!

Buckskinner Bock

Brewed as a tribute to the 25th and final year of Klondike Days, Wisconsin’s #1 Winter Family Fun Festival! A slightly malty sweet, dark and bready lager, medium bodied, with a hint of caramel. Deep amber in color with moderate carbonation. Let’s celebrate the end of Winter and the coming of Spring, shall we?

Save the Dome Pilsner

(2019)

Brewed as a tribute to the historic hockey dome in Eagle River. An easy drinking pilsner that finishes clean. Tribute donated a portion of all tap and 4-pack sales to the dome's restoration project.

Strong & Manley Series #1-11/19: Belgian Style Quadrupel Aged in Dark Rum Barrels

(2019)

Fred J. Strong and William H. Manley operated Strong & Manley Hardware in Eagle River in the early 1900's. Two hard working men joining together with the perfect name for a hardware store. Our Strong & Manley Series pays tribute to these retail pioneers with the best of the best, brewed and presented by a new generation of hard working entrepreneurs.

Bold Eagle Whiskey Barrel Aged Porter

(2019)

Bold Eagle was a collaboration between McFarland Liquors and Tribute Brewing. McFarland Liquors provided the whiskey barrels to age our Old Eagle Porter. The result was a bold, roasty porter with a slight whiskey nose and a smooth whiskey finish.

Reviews

We pulled up to this taproom and just kind of looked at one another. It's in a metal warehouse building. Intrigued, we went in and it's lovely inside! I love the blue all over. Everyone was super friendly and the atmosphere was really relaxed.

Krista M.Saint Paul, MN

Fantastic beers, great atmosphere, and friendly staff. Great selection of their own beers plus an amazing selection of other Wisconsin beers! Never thought I would find such great craft beer in Eagle River.

Chad M.Milwaukee, WI

I seriously loved all the beers. Fun little taproom, I appreciated the popcorn and peanuts. We got the beer flight. My favorites were the porter, the blueberry, and the jalapeno beer. Yes that's right, JALAPENO BEER. It would be amazing as a chaser with a Bloody Mary!!!

Kesiah H.Wauwatosa, WI

Finally stopped in to enjoy one of there delicious beers on tap. I now ask myself why I hadn't stopped in sooner, having drank their beer for a few years. Wonderful atmosphere and engaging staff. We will be back sooner than later and more often than not.
