The Blueberry Line Train

Long before coolers, crowlers, and can releases, the Northwoods had another prized export, and it rolled out on steel rails.

Blueberry Train Wheat Ale is our tribute to the legendary Blueberry Line, a seasonal railroad route that once carried freshly picked wild blueberries from northern Wisconsin straight down to Chicago. Those trains passed right through Eagle River, turning small depots and sidings into bustling hubs of baskets, crates, and purple-stained hands every summer.

🫐 A Northwoods Superhighway (Before Highways)

In the early 1900s, wild blueberries were big business in northern Wisconsin. Families, kids, and entire towns headed into the woods to pick berries by the bucket. Once harvested, speed mattered, these berries had to reach Chicago markets fast while they were still fresh.

That’s where the Blueberry Line came in.

Special “blueberry trains” ran during peak harvest season, hauling carloads of berries south overnight. What left the Northwoods as handpicked fruit arrived in Chicago as pies, preserves, pancakes, and profits. For a few weeks each year, the railroad didn’t just connect towns, it connected livelihoods.

🚉 Eagle River on the Line

Eagle River wasn’t just a scenic stop, it was part of the action. Local depots buzzed with activity as crates were loaded, tallied, and rushed aboard. The train’s whistle meant opportunity, summer money, and a direct line from the woods to the city.

That spirit—hard work, short seasons, and simple rewards—is exactly what we wanted to capture in this beer.

🍺 The Beer That Rides the Rails

Blueberry Train Wheat Ale is light, refreshing, and just fruity enough to remind you why those berries were worth shipping hundreds of miles.

  • 🍞 Soft wheat body for an easy, smooth ride

  • 🫐 Real blueberry character—bright, not sweet

  • 🌲 Clean finish that feels right at home in the Northwoods

It’s the kind of beer you crack after a long day outside… or while telling stories that start with, “You know, back when the train used to…”

🍻 All Aboard

This beer isn’t just about blueberries, it’s about a moment in time when the Northwoods briefly became the center of the map, when summer meant berries, rails, and opportunity.

So raise a glass to the pickers, the rail workers, and the Blueberry Line itself.
